My friend Scott points out that many Americans are angry about the darkness, death and cruelty caused by Donald Trump. He worries that the idea of loving and forgiving him may lead to doing nothing to stop his efforts to destroy our country. In fact, many people have adopted the strategy of not watching the news, so they won’t feel dreadful. Others have decided not to join protests because they don’t think it will make a difference.
My response: Take an hour to read about Mahatma Gandhi or watch the film Gandhi and you will see how one man committed to nonviolence can change the world for the better. The winning strategy, according to Gandhi: “Whenever you are confronted with an opponent, conquer him with love.”
